Take an extraordinary Travelian Tour for nature and birding and visiting remarkable Mayan ruins in the highland pine forests and untouched jungles of Chiapas with us and our expert local guides! 

Spend the first two nights in San Cristobal de las Casas, then head down to the Lacandon Forest for our next stop, a remarkable eco lodge situated on the banks of the Lacantun River where we will spend two nights. Be prepared to add new birds to your “Life List” at this beautiful location! You will have a chance to see and hear howler monkeys in the nearby trees and agoutis running about freely in the brush as well. The next day we’ll take an early boat ride along the river into the untouched Lacandon Jungle with our expert bird guides. 

Afterward, we’ll drive to an eco lodge in the town of Frontera Corozal on the banks of the Usumacinta River (one of the largest rivers in Central America), marking the border between Mexico and Guatemala. The following morning, we’ll leave early on a boat ride with our guides to the remarkable Mayan site of Yaxchilan! This stunning site is brimming with lush jungle and plenty of wildlife. Our guides will inform you about this archeological site while identifying a large variety of tropical birds residing in and visiting this area. Our boat ride will offer us plenty of birding as well. After we return to our lodge, we'll have time to relax or keep birding, the next day our guides will take us to the magnificient archeological site of Bonampak famous for its finely preserved Mayan murals. We’ll spend time learning about this site from our expert guides.

Next we’ll drive to our hotel in Palenque! You’ll be in for a treat at this elegant comfortable hotel. We’ll have time to relax, swim, or bird watch at this gorgeous place surrounded by lush jungle. A private tour of the site will be led by our guide! Next day have a relaxing morning at the pristine waterfalls of Roberto Barrios, a series of waterfalls of turquoise waters seldom visited by travelers and abundant in natural beauty and peace.

Itinerary - 10 Days


day 1
Fly to Tuxtla Gutierrez ~ You will need to make your own air reservations, or contact us and one of our representatives will help you booking your flights through our Travel Agency Booking system. We recommend flying on Aeromexico. If you would like to share a van to the airport in Guanajuato (BJX Bajio International Airport) our guide will be departing at 5:30 am from San Miguel de Allende and will fly on Aeromexico flight 155 at 8:15 am to Tuxtla Gutierrez (with an stop in Mexico City for 1.4 hours). Arrive in Tuxtla Gutierrez at 12:35 pm and a shuttle will take us to our hotel in San Cristobal de las Casas. Check into hotel and meet up with Rodrigo. Meet in hotel lobby and walk to dinner*. 

A fee will be charged for van transportation each way: San Miguel to Bajio airport / Bajio airport to San Miguel.

day 2
7:00 A. M. Early breakfast and depart for a hike and birding at local state park Tzomptehuitz, then we'll visit Moxviquil, a botanical garden specialized in orchids. After having lunch* in downtown, we'll have time to relax, explore downtown San Cristobal on your own, or optional birding at a nearby location, later we'll gather in the lobby of our hotel to go for dinner at a nearby hotel.

day 3
7:00 A. M. After enjoying breakfast at our hotel, check out and depart towards the city of Comitan, were we'll take our flight towards the Lacandon Forest (Cessna airplane, included in tour's fee), once at the Lacandon Forest, we'll meet our driver who will take us to our lodge where we'll have lunch* and relax. Later we'll meet for an optional hike in the forest and then gather at the restaurant of our lodge for dinner.

day 4
6:30 A. M. Breakfast. Take a private boat tour along the Lacantun River to see birds of this region with local expert guides. Lunch* at the lodge. Have time to relax. Birding will be available before dinner*.

day 5
6:30 A.M. After having breakfast at the lodge, we'll depart towards the town of Frontera Corozal, we'll be birding along the way and will have snacks with us. Once in Frontera Corozal, we'll check in and have a late lunch, and have time to settle in. Birding will be available before dinner*.

day 6
6:30 A. M. Breakfast at the lodge. Take a boat ride along the Usumacinta River to the Yaxchilan Ruins for an archeological tour and birding with local expert guides. (Be sure to take water and snacks!)  Return to our Lodge for late lunch*. Birding will be available before dinner*.

day 7
6:30 A. M. Breakfast at the lodge. Check out and depart towards Bonampak archeological site for an archeological tour with our local expert guides. (Be sure to take water and snacks). Have lunch* at a local restaurant and then drive to Palenque. Enjoy our beautiful hotel. Take a swim, bird watch from the gardens, or relax. Dinner* at our hotel.

day 8
7:00 A.M.  Breakfast at our hotel. Private early morning tour of Palenque site with our expert local guide. Return to our hotel to freshen up and have lunch*. In the afternoon, have the option to return to the archeological site and visit the musuem or just relax at the pool of our hotel. Tonight we'll drive towards Palenque downtown which as been recently declared Pueblo Magico. Dinner* in downtown.

day 9
After enjoying breakfast at our hotel, we'll drive towards the waterfalls of Roberto Barrios, an gorgeous series of waterfalls of turquoise water that are clean and little known by outsiders, then we'll return to our hotel to have lunch* and have a free afternoon. Dinner* tonight will be at the restaurant of our hotel.

day 10
Travel day - Return to San Miguel.
You may wish to stay longer in Tabasco or leave directly for the US or Canada. If you wish to return to San Miguel with our guides, we will leave for the airport at 7:45 am We’ll fly on Aeromexico airflight 508 at 9:30 am. (With a stop in Mexico City Airport where we'll have time to have lunch -2 hours) and arriving into BJX Bajio International Airport at 2:20 pm. A van will pick us up, and take us to San Miguel de Allende.

A fee will be charged for van transportation each way: San Miguel to Bajio airport / Bajio airport to San Miguel.
